Talmine, Eire

Elsewhere on this site are samples of travel writing by Brick's alter ego, John Stuart Clark. An essential piece of equipment on these jaunts is a sketch book. Though a journey has never been undertaken specifically for the purpose of drawing, my sketch book has proved invaluable for whiling away waiting time, communicating in a language everybody understands or simply for doodling on days away from the road.

Drawing in public is something which arouses curiosity, frequently leading to invitations from the natives. Unfortunately this generally finds me having to caricature the whole family…

All sketches are undertaken in biro unless employing felt tip and a wash of coffee or water from a puddle, as opposite (top).
