Whether creating a comic, illustrating an article, caricaturing the stars or cracking a joke, cartooning is an immediate, personal and hugely enjoyable art form for young and old to explore. Requiring only pen and paper and a little imagination, cartooning workshops reap returns far in excess of their outlay.

For some students it is simply a fun time where they learn to draw like Disney. For others it is a chance to express themselves in a way never before considered.

And for the few who feel they just don't fit in, it can be the first step on the road to a future no careers adviser thought to suggest. Ten years on, an email recently arrived from an ex student who was labelled 'disaffected' and is now a successful freelance illustrator in Australia.

Another 'lost cause' found her niche in Hollywood producing storyboards.

He has also contributed workshops to International Cartoon Festivals in Rathdrum (Eire), Ayr (Scotland), Shrewsbury & The Big Grin (Nottingham).

He has run sessions in schools, village halls, restaurants, colleges, fast food chains, museums, marquees, prisons, gallaries, youth centres, football clubs, high street retailers and the open air.
